Question: Any open world games where you can run a caravan or a small trade company, not just a shop in one town?

I like wandering between cities, buying low, selling high, hiring a couple guards, and occasionally getting jumped on the road. Owning a house or a warehouse in a few towns would be a bonus. Fighting should still be part of it. I don’t want a pure spreadsheet trader.Something like: travel, trade, hire people, defend the caravan, maybe settle down and buy property later. Fantasy or historical is fine. The more of that loop it has, the better.

Mount & Blade: Bannerlord (or Warband) is the closest match to the loop you describe. You can trade goods between towns yourself, hire troops, get jumped by bandits and fight them in real-time battles, and later set up caravans run by companions. It has no player houses, but you can buy workshops in towns, and eventually you can become a lord and hold a village, castle, or town. Fighting is a core part of the game, so it won't feel like a spreadsheet.

Kenshi is worth a look. Big open-world sandbox where you wander between towns, buy low, sell high, hire squadmates, and get jumped by bandits and wildlife out in the wastes. You can build your own outposts and bases later, which scratches the "settle down" itch. Fair warning though, it's pretty rough around the edges. Steep learning curve, and the first few hours will humble you.
